Simple Past Tense yani ''geçmiş zaman'' geçmişte tamamlanmış olan olayları, eylemleri ifade ederken kullanılır.

 Ne Zaman Kullanılır?

·        Geçmişte gerçekleşmiş eylemleri,

·        Geçmişteki alışkanlıkları anlatırken

Peki Nasıl Kullanılır?

Olumlu Cümleler

Olumlu bir ‘’simple past tense’’ cümlesi kurarken öznenin ardından fiilin ikinci hali kullanılır. Bunun için fiillerin ikinci hallerini ezberlemeliyiz (: * ( Detaylı bilgi için; Sık Kullanılan Fiillerin İkinci Halleri) , Ayrıca örnek birkaç fiilin ikinci halleri, yazının sonunda bulunmaktadır)

Kısacası;

Özne

I

You

We

                                            They       +          Fiilin ikinci hali

He

She

It

Örneğin;

  •        I played soccer last week.
  •        You played tennis yesterday.
  •        We were in France last year.
  •        They were on holiday two months ago.
  •         He enjoyed being a teacher.
  •        She moved to a new neighbourhood.
  •         It ate two bones

Olumsuz Cümleler

Olumsuz bir ‘’simple past tense’’ cümlesi kurarken öznenin ardından yardımcı fiil olan ‘’did’’ in olumsuz halini yani ‘’did not’ ı kullanırız. Did not, genellikle ‘’didn’t ‘’ olarak kısaltılıp kullanılır. Fiil ise birinci hali ile kullanılır.

Kısacası;

I

You

We

They                         +    didn’t    +   Fiilin ilk hali

He

She

It

Örneğin;

  •         I didn't see Alice yesterday.
  •         You didn’t call me last night.
  •         We didn't go to Spain this summer.
  • They didn't get home until very late last night.
  •         He didn’t answer my question.
  •         She didn’t eat anything.
  •         It didn’t sleep last night.

                                                                   I

                                                                 You

                                                                 We

                         Did               +                They               +       Fiilin ilk hali

                                                                 He

                                                                She

                                                                 It
